Oquedad III

Description

The work of Agustín Morales brings together two aesthetic perspectives, merging the tradition of Granadan pottery, which he learned in the family workshop, and the conceptual avant-garde of contemporary art. In his hands, the clay ceases to be purely a craft material, and is transformed into a medium for sculptural expression.

Using refractory clay, fired and glazed at a high temperature, the artist applies rigorous, innovative technical processes to create abstract forms that play with ideas of fullness and emptiness, based on geometric concepts arranged in series.

In Oquedad III, two semi-cylinders fused together have the look of an archaic votive vessel, with smooth, organic lines, entirely closed but for small round holes. The piece evokes the ceremonial and the primitive, thanks to the combination of different tones and textures, achieved by means of glaze and sgraffito.
