The Visitor Interpretive Archaeological Site “Huelva: The Millennial City”, Cabezo De La Almagra
Description
The Visitor Interpretive Site is located at the top of the Cabezo de la Almagra, situated at the north-eastern tip of the El Carmen University Campus, opposite the Faculty of Work Sciences and the University School of Social Work.
It is structured on two storeys and has a basement floor which is allocated to workshop areas and a laboratory. The ground floor houses the Visitor Interpretive Centre comprising a large hall linked to the outside via a series of openings and ramps, through which visitors access the archaeological remains.
It is structured as an internal extension to the main archaeological site, providing an open and visible circuit through/around it. The upper floor takes the form of a large viewing platform with stunning views over the archaeological park’s landscape, the city, the University campus and the marshes of the River Tinto.
The structure is made of rust-coloured COR-TEN steel sheets and the interior panelling made of coconut fibre.
The building was constructed by Huelva Town Council and granted to the University of Huelva.
