Portrait of Picasso
Description
This work by Jesús Martínez Labrador, the bronze head or bust of Pablo Picasso on a marble plinth, has achieved a perfect recreation of the human form, transforming it into a symphony of movement, strength, and vitality. Yet it does so while retaining the sculptor’s unmistakeable personal style – a style that has led him to be considered one of the most renowned artists of his time.
Most of his sculptures represent figures or parts of the body, as he uses human anatomy as a tool for manifesting spirituality, with classical touches. These classical flourishes suggest his work draws on the Neoclassicism of the great masters of sculpture such as Rodin, while imbued with a subtle modernity that reveals a continual regeneration of his conceptual vision and his interest in the world.
